Fantasy Halloween

Since I am going to be all dressed up with nowhere to go due to Hurricane Sandy's devastating effect in the New York area this Halloween, I thought I might as well postpone dressing up all together. So, I will dress up on the internet, isn't that where we all live anyways? And why not put together some fantasy outfits that you can wear for costume, or simply everyday?

I took inspiration from the 4 leading ladies in my life. Where would I be without the obligatory Clueless quote in my everyday conversation? My apathetic attitude towards authority would be nothing without Daria. How would I be courageous enough to wear mini skirts on a daily basis when I know I will have to run to catch a train without Buffy's help? And let's not forget Margot,
the sole reason I own polo dresses.

Dressing Up With Gatsby

With the upcoming movie release of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, I cannot get the 1920's out of my head. I love the simple elegance of this decade, and I am thrilled to see one of my favorite director's interpretations of F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic novel. After seeing the trailer for the first time this Summer, I could not wait for Halloween to start playing dress up and channeling the infamous Daisy Buchanan. Here are some photographs taken while I was home for the Summer, hope this brings some ritzy inspiration to your Hallow's Eve!

Hurricane

As the worst of Hurricane Sandy approaches New York City, I couldn't help but grab one more walk around the block and savor the fresh air before completely barricading myself into my apartment. The worst is still to come, but I have plenty of board games and enough pizza to last a month so I feel pretty prepared. I wanted to capture the abandoned streets of the most popular intersection in Manhattan: Herald Square. There were a few tourists wandering the area window shopping since everything on the East coast is pretty much shut down, probably grabbing their last chance at some fresh air like I was. If your in the area,
good luck and please stay safe!

I would love to thank Cusp and Neiman Marcus for giving me such a  fun and creative project. I cannot wait to see what the other 4 finalists have come up with!
Good luck everyone!
This past week has flown by since I found out I was nominated as a Cusp by: Neiman Marcus Blogger on the Cusp finalist. I entered the competition after a friend forwarded me a page off of NM Daily, announcing that they were on the hunt for a "Blogger on the Cusp." It sounded like the perfect idea being a New York fashion blogger originally from Dallas, the birthplace of Neiman Marcus. So I submitted my blog and honestly put the whole thing out of my mind as to not get my hopes up. I was in Dallas en route to Los Angeles for the weekend, which as fate would have it has a fantastic Cusp location. I always love shopping around the Cusp boutique at my hometown Neimans, but this store had a little bit more of every selection and made the experience that much more special of an experience! As I finalist, I was asked to style an outfit using $1000 so here's what I came up with!

On the Cusp

Growing up in Dallas, Texas, it is no surprise that Neiman Marcus has become and will always remain my home away from home. Even when I visit all the way from New York City, capital of shopping arenas and department stores, nothing can compare to stepping through those familiar glass doors, gliding into the handbag department, taking a ride down the escalators, passing the beautifully designed displays, strolling through the makeup counters and finally, grabbing a bite at the Mermaid cafe. Neiman Marcus introduced me to the infamous tweed and quilted staples of Chanel, showed me how fun fashion could be with vintage inspired garments by Marc Jacobs, and taught me how to appreciate beautiful hand work with Oscar de la Renta. This store, this home, fostered my love for fashion and
made me the designer I am today.
And with that... I am honored (and really freaking excited!) to announce that I have been chosen as 1 out of finalists in the running for the title of a Blogger on the Cusp for Cusp by Neiman Marcus. This past weekend when I was visiting family in Dallas, I thought it would be fun to feature one of my favorite outings. I serendipitiously snapped these photos moments before I found out the news that the very same place that inspired me to join the ranks as a designer, Neiman Marcus, wanted me to represent their up and coming boutique: Cusp.
As a finalist, I was asked to use $1000 to style and put together  an outfit of my choice from Cusp. Featuring labels like: Elizabeth and James, Alice + Olivia, Rag & Bone, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Splendid, Free People, Maison Scotch, Vince, Diane Von Furstenberg...

So heres where y'all come in: This week Cusp by Neiman Marcus will be posting looks from all 5 finalist, and it will be up to you to vote on your favorite outfit and blogger who you think represents the Cusp brand the best.

I cannot wait to share what I found while I was at the Cusp store in Los Angeles, so stay tuned to see how I styled my Cusp outfit!

In the meantime, here's what I wore in Dallas while I was visiting Neimans. Striped sweater by Burberry Brit, lace shorts from Free People, Isabel Marant sneaker wedges, H&M jewelry from their collaboration with Anna Dello Russo, striped beanie from Free People, shearling jacket by Andrew Marc.
